The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has condemned allegations of extortion by its personnel along the Lagos-Seme border corridor, following reports circulating online. The agency said the alleged conduct runs contrary to its standards and vowed to take action.
In a statement signed by the Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, said the actions described in the reports were unacceptable and in clear violation of the Service’s ethics and operational guidelines.
The NIS said it had temporarily relieved the Comptrollers in charge of the affected commands of their duties, pending the outcome of a full investigation. It added that the probe would seek to identify officers involved and ensure appropriate disciplinary measures are enforced without delay.
The agency also reassured the public of its commitment to professionalism, transparency and efficiency at all entry and exit points, stressing that it would not tolerate actions that undermine public trust or damage its reputation.
Members of the public were encouraged to report misconduct through the Service’s official social media platforms and contact centre lines, as part of efforts to strengthen accountability mechanisms.
The Nigeria Immigration Service said it remains committed to upholding integrity and discipline while facilitating lawful migration.
