The Defence Headquarters says ongoing joint counterterrorism operations between Nigerian forces and the United States Africa Command have eliminated 175 ISIS terrorists in North-East Nigeria.
According to a statement signed by Director Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the operations also led to the destruction of terrorist checkpoints, weapons caches, logistical hubs, military equipment, and financial networks used to support insurgent activities.
The military disclosed that several senior ISIS and ISWAP commanders were killed during the strikes, including Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, described as one of the group’s most significant operatives globally.
Defence Headquarters said al-Minuki coordinated terrorist financing, recruitment, logistics, andattack planning targeting Nigerians and other civilians, adding that his death had significantly disrupted ISIS operational and external attack networks.
Other terrorist figures reportedly eliminated include Abd-al Wahhab, Abu Musa al-Mangawi, and Abu al-Muthanna al-Muhajir, all identified as senior ISWAP members involved in attacks, propaganda, and media operations.
The Defence Headquarters said the joint operations would continue until terrorist networks threatening Nigeria and regional stability are completely dismantled.
