Nigerian Air Force pledges stronger security support for Taraba

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has pledged to strengthen security operations in Taraba State, as part of wider efforts to support stability and development in the region.

The assurance was given by the Chief of the Air Staff, Sunday Kelvin Aneke, during a meeting in Abuja with Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas.

Air Marshal Aneke described the visit as an important step in boosting cooperation between the military and civil authorities in addressing security challenges. He praised the governor’s efforts to promote peace and socio-economic development in the state.

Taraba, in north-eastern Nigeria, has faced security pressures linked to communal clashes and spillover from wider instability in neighbouring regions.The air force chief said the state’s strategic location makes coordinated security operations essential to maintaining stability. He added that the NAF would continue to support efforts on the ground through air strikes, intelligence gathering and surveillance missions, as well as logistics support for troops.

He said ongoing joint operations in and around Taraba demonstrate the military’s commitment to consolidating security gains and responding to emerging threats.

Air Marshal Aneke also called for closer collaboration between the military and state authorities, particularly in intelligence sharing, joint planning and community engagement. He stressed that such cooperation must be carried out with professionalism and respect for human rights.

Governor Kefas welcomed the air force’s continued involvement, saying its operations hadimproved security conditions across the state.

He said increased aerial surveillance and the deployment of air power had enhanced situational awareness for security forces and contributed to greater public confidence.

The governor added that these efforts have helped reinforce Taraba’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s more secure states.
