The Nigerian Army’s 8 Division has expanded its collaboration with the Air Warfare and Doctrine Centre (AWDC) as part of renewed efforts to counter terrorism and banditry in the North-West. The partnership was formalised during a courtesy visit by the AWDC Commandant, Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Jibia, to the General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Bemgba Paul Koughna.
In a statement signed by Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Major General Koughna commended Air Vice Marshal Jibia for his distinguished service and leadership across various command roles. He pledged full cooperation with the AWDC and stressed the importance of continuous dialogue to overcome shared operational challenges. The GOC also reaffirmed that 8 Division would proactively support AWDC initiatives, even ahead of formal requests.

Air Vice Marshal Jibia congratulated Major General Koughna on his appointment and expressed confidence in his ability to steer security operations in the region. He noted that many Nigerian Air Force personnel remain unaware of AWDC’s core mandate, which includes developing and updating air force doctrine, refining employment concepts and improving operational competence to enhance joint air–ground exercises.
He highlighted operational gaps—particularly in air-drone integration and the practical application of doctrine on the frontline—and emphasised that seamless air–ground coordination is essential for effective air power delivery. The visit ended with an exchange of souvenirs and group photographs, symbolising what officials described as a strengthened partnership in the ongoing fight against terrorism.
