The Nigerian Navy has commissioned a number of welfare and infrastructure projects in Lagos as part of activities marking the Nigerian Navy Week and the service’s 70th anniversary celebration.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ikechukwu Emmanuel Ogalla, represented by Vice Admiral I. Abbas, said the projects underscore the Navy’s commitment to improving personnel welfare and strengthening support infrastructure for officers, ratings and their families.

The projects commissioned include the Dolphin Golf Club House, a 48-unit one-room accommodation block for juniorratings and a newly completed 16-unit two-bedroom housing complex, all located within Navy Town, Lagos.
The naval chief noted that the event reflected the Navy’s determination to complete abandoned but viable projects across its formations. He revealed that the 48-unit accommodation block had remained abandoned for more than five years before its completion.
According to him, the Navy will continue to prioritise the completion of abandoned projects to ensure personnel benefit from investments made for their welfare, adding that more previously stalled projects would be commissioned across the country.

Vice Admiral Abbas described the Dolphin Golf Club House as an important investment in the social and recreational life of naval personnel, noting that itwould serve as a platform for professional interaction, networking and engagement among serving personnel, veterans and stakeholders.
He stressed the importance of proper maintenance of the facilities, urging beneficiaries and custodians to develop a strong maintenance culture and ensure prudent use of electricity and other resources.
The Chief of the Naval Staff also expressed appreciation to President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his continued support towards the growth and modernisation of the Nigerian Navy.

He further commended the contractors, engineers, project implementation teams and workers involved in the projects, expressing confidence that the facilities would enhance institutional development and contribute to the operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Navy.
