The Navy Board has approved the promotion of 127 senior officers across various ranks in the Nigerian Navy, marking a major uplift in leadership capacity within the service. The approval, granted on Thursday, 27 November 2025, elevated 15 Commodores to Rear Admirals, 31 Captains to Commodores, and 81 Commanders to Captains.
During the decoration of one of the newly promoted Captains at Navy Holdings Limited, Asokoro, the Group Managing Director/CEO, Rear Admiral Hamza Ibrahim, commended the officers for their hard work and professionalism. He urged them to remain diligent, uphold the Navy’s standards of excellence, and show fairness in their leadership, especially to junior personnel.
Responding on behalf of the promoted officers, Captain Abdulsalam Sani expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral I. Ibass. He pledged unwavering loyalty to the Nigerian Navy and reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding the nation’s maritime domain.
In attendance at the ceremony were Justice Binta Nyako, Captain Sani’s wife amongst other well wishers.

Navy Captain Abdulsalam Sani was born on 4 January 1977 in Kaduna and hails from Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State. He earned his Senior Secondary Certificate in 1995 from Government College, Katsina, before obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Bayero University, Kano. He went on to acquire a Master of Science degree in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos and is currently a PhD candidate.

He enlisted into the Nigerian Navy in 2004 as a member of Direct Regular Course 15. Throughout his career, he has completed a series of professional military courses, including the Sub-Lieutenant Technical Course (NNS QUORRA), Young Officers Course at the Nigerian Army School of Public Relations and Information, Junior and Senior Staff Courses at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, and the Information Operations Course conducted by the British Military Advisory and Training Team.
Captain Sani has held several critical appointments across naval establishments and tri-service institutions. These include Watchkeeping Officer on board NNS OFIOM; Base Information Officer at NNS WEY, NNS BEECROFT, and NNS PATHFINDER; Command Information Officer, Naval Training Command; Command Information Officer, Western Naval Command; and Public Relations Officer, National Defence College.
He also served as Staff Officer 1 (Public Relations) at Naval Headquarters and was the pioneer Nigerian Navy Liaison Officer at the Directorate of Defence Media Operations. Captain Sani played key public affairs roles in multinational exercises including OBANGAME EXPRESS (2013, Douala; 2019, Lagos), GRAND AFRICAN NEMO 2019, and Operation JUNCTION RAIN in the Gulf of Guinea.
He is a recipient of the Passed Staff Course (psc), Forces Service Star (FSS), and Meritorious Service Star (MSS). He is also a certified member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (MNIPR).
Captain Sani is happily married and blessed with three children. His hobbies include research and appreciating nature.
