Personnel of the Nigerian Navy have rescued two 16-year-old boys from drowning after their wooden boat capsized in Egweama Community, Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

According to a statement signed by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the incident occurred on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, while the teenagers were returning from a routine trip through the community’s waterways.

The Navy said the boat capsized due to adverse water conditions, leaving the boys stranded and at risk of drowning. Personnel of the Forward Operating Base, FOB FORMOSO, who spotted the distressed teenagers, immediately responded and rescued them from the water. The victims were evacuated to safety and provided with medical attention to ascertain their condition.

The Navy said the operation demonstrated the professionalism and readiness of its personnel to respond to emergencies and safeguard lives within Nigeria’s maritime environment.It added that the rescue also underscored its commitment to maritime safety, search-and-rescue operations and the protection of coastal and riverine communities. The Nigerian Navy reaffirmed its commitment to protecting legitimate users of the country’s waterways and securing Nigeria’s maritime domain.
