The Nigerian Navy has intensified its crackdown on cross-border fuel smuggling with the recovery of more than 6,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as petrol, during an operation along the Badagry-Ajara axis of Lagos State.
The operation was carried out by personnel of the Forward Operating Base, Badagry, following intelligence reports on the activities of fuel smugglers operating within the area.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the mission formed part of ongoing efforts by the Navy to disrupt illegal fuel trafficking routes and prevent the movement of petroleum products through unauthorized border corridors.
During the raid, naval operatives discovered about 240 jerrycans of 25 litres each filled with petroland concealed for illegal transportation through the Badagry waterways.
The products were subsequently recovered and evacuated to the Forward Operating Base in Badagry for further action in line with established procedures.
The Navy said the operation underscores its sustained efforts to dismantle criminal networks involved in trans-border smuggling and economic sabotage through maritime routes.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining operational pressure across strategic border corridors to deny smugglers and other criminal elements freedom of operation within the nation’s maritime environment.
