The Northern Reconciliation Group (NRG) has raised alarm over the escalating wave of violent attacks, kidnappings and banditry across several states in Northern Nigeria, warning that many rural and semi-urban communities are living under constant threat.
In a statement signed by its pro tempore secretary, Dr Joseph Lengmang, and pro tempore spokesperson, Professor Usman Yusuf, the group expressed solidarity with victims of repeated violence, saying the loss of lives, displacement and destruction of livelihoods had deeply scarred communities and weakened the social fabric of the region.
The NRG said the scale and persistence of insecurity could no longer be viewed as isolated incidents, describing the situation as a regional and national emergency requiring urgent, coordinated and humane intervention. It stressed that protecting human life and dignity remained a fundamental responsibility of government.
The group called for intensified, intelligence-led operations to free abducted persons and dismantle criminal networks. It also urged the implementation of stronger security and early-warning systems, alongside renewed efforts to promote justice, accountability and community-driven trust-building initiatives aimed at restoring lasting peace in Northern Nigeria.
