The Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has secured land in the Federal Capital Territory for the construction of its permanent national secretariat.
The development was disclosed during a courtesy visit by the association’s National Executive, led by its Chairperson, Hajiya Aisha Ibrahim, to the President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Alhassan Yahaya.
Ms Ibrahim said NAWOJ had obtained the Certificate of Occupancy for the land after completing all required documentation and regulatory processes.
She explained that the acquisition followed approval by the association’s National Executive Council, with the submission of necessary documents, including formal authorisation and records of proceedings.
According to her, a total of ₦1.597m was spent to secure the land, despite what she described as bureaucratic challenges during the process.
She said the project represents a long-term investment in the association’s institutional development, adding that plans are underway to begin construction.
Ms Ibrahim also acknowledged the support of the NUJ leadership, including assistance previously provided to help NAWOJ retain its rented national secretariat.
In his remarks, Mr Yahaya described the acquisition as a significant milestone, congratulating the association and pledging continued support.
He urged NAWOJ to begin development on the site and emphasised the need for partnerships tosustain growth within the journalism profession.
Both organisations said the visit reflected ongoing collaboration aimed at promoting the welfare and professional development of journalists in Nigeria.
