Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has officially handed over the construction of a multi-billion naira international airport to contractors, marking the commencement of the project in Zariagi, on the outskirts of Lokoja, the state capital.

The governor, represented at the ceremony by the State Commissioner for Transportation, Victor Atuluku, said the project is a people-focused initiative aimed at transforming the state’s economy and positioning Kogi as a hub for investment, trade and industrial growth.

Speaking at the site, Atuluku said the airport is a strategic infrastructure designed to unlock the state’s economic potential, adding that it is expected to attract local and international investment, create jobs and boost socio-economic development upon completion.

The project has been awarded to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and Gamji Construction Company, with a mandate to deliver it to global standards. The governor urged the contractors to ensure timely and quality delivery, while calling on residents to support the project and assuring investors of adequate security.
