Ogun Police Arrest Six Suspects, Recover Firearms, Ammunition and Stolen Property

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested six suspects and recovered firearms, ammunition, generators and mobile phones in separate intelligence-led operations across Abeokuta, Wasimi and Ibafo areas of the state.

According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the operations were carried out by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit and Ibafo Division, leading to the dismantling of suspected criminal networks involved in theft, illegal possession of firearms, conspiracy and receiving stolen property.

The suspects were identified as Afisu Awesu, Bala Aminu, Moruf Sodiq, also known as “Okiki”, Mumuni Amodu, alias “Stone”, Abayomi John, alias “Ibafo”, and Adeboye Ojesina.

Police said operatives of the VCRU arrested Moruf Sodiq on May 30 over his alleged involvement in a generator theft syndicate operating in Abeokuta and surrounding communities.

The suspect reportedly led investigators to Mumuni Amodu, identified as a receiver of stolen goods. A search of his premises led to the recovery of four Elepaq generators, one Sumec Fireman generator and nine Android phones suspected to have been stolen.

Further investigation resulted in the arrest of Abayomi John, a motorcyclist alleged to have provided transportation support for members of the syndicate during operations.

In a separate operation on June 12, SWAT operatives arrested 58-year-old Adeboye Ojesina over alleged unlawful possession of firearms and intimidation of residents in Wasimi and neighbouring communities.

Recovered from him were a locally fabricated pistol, a pump-action rifle, two live cartridges and one expended cartridge.

The police said the suspect claimed he found the pistol and fired a test round, while alleging that the pump-action rifle was given to him by an unidentified individual who is currently being traced.

Meanwhile, operatives attached to Ibafo Division arrested Afisu Awesu on June 13 while allegedly attempting to steal a forklift engine component from a site in Igbeti Sote Village.

Investigations later led to the arrest of Bala Aminu, who was accused of receiving stolen forklift tyres allegedly stolen from the same location.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved in the operations and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and the sustained crackdown on criminal activities across the state.

He assured residents that the command would continue proactive measures to safeguard lives and property while ensuring that all suspects are prosecuted upon conclusion of investigations.
