Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Oluyede, has urged citizens to use the Christmas season to promote peace, tolerance and national unity, while expressing appreciation for the resilience of Nigerians and the sacrifices of military personnel across the country.
In his Christmas and New Year message, General Oluyede said the season offered an opportunity for reflection on “love, sacrifice, hope and renewal”, and called on Nigerians to strengthen their support for the Armed Forces as they confront multiple security challenges.
He paid tribute to frontline troops deployed across various operations, praising their courage and professionalism even as they spend the festive period away from their families. Their service, he said, represents “the finest traditions of the Armed Forces of Nigeria”.
General Oluyede restated that troop welfare would remain a priority, noting ongoing efforts to improve accommodation, healthcare, allowances and support for families of fallen soldiers. He said the military’s new strategic philosophy aims to strengthen joint operational capabilities while reinforcing welfare and administration.
He urged personnel to remain disciplined, loyal to the constitution and guided by values of integrity, honour and service. The Defence chief also encouraged Nigerians to embrace unity across ethnic and religious divides, saying the country’s diversity was a source of strength.
The General thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as unwavering support to the Armed Forces, and called for continued cooperation among all security agencies.
He wished Nigerians a peaceful Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
