Operation Fansan Yamma, Mayanchi leaders discuss security challenges

The Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General W.B. Idris, has met with leaders of the Mayanchi Development Association over recurring terrorist attacks and other security challenges affecting Mayanchi and surrounding communities.

In a statement signed by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the meeting was held on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the Theatre Headquarters in Gusau, Zamfara State, as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation between the military and local communities.

Chairman of the Mayanchi Development Association, Alhaji Lawali Barga, who led the delegation, commended troops for their efforts in protecting residents but raised concerns over repeated terrorist attacks, which he said had resulted in deaths, destruction of property and displacement of residents.

Barga appealed to the military to improve response to distress calls, reinforce troops and equipment in the area and ensure periodic rotation of personnel. He also sought approval for community-supported security infrastructure, while pledging the community’s continued cooperation with security forces through the provision of credible intelligence.

Responding, Major General Idris described cooperation between security forces and communities as crucial to tackling insecurity, stressing that security remains a collective responsibility. He assured the delegation that Operation FANSAN YAMMA was committed to restoring normalcy in Mayanchi and other vulnerable communities across the Joint Operations Area.

The Theatre Commander said several operational measures were already being implemented, although some might not be visible to the public. He urged residents to remain patient and continue providing timely and credible information that could assist troops in ongoing operations.

The meeting ended with the delegation visiting the Theatre’s Wall of Heroes, a monument dedicated to personnel of Operation FANSAN YAMMA who lost their lives in the line of duty since the operation began in 2024.
