No fewer than 50 ISWAP terrorists were killed after troops of Operation HADIN KAI repelled an attack on the Headquarters of 27 Brigade and Buni Gari Checkpoint in Yobe State.
According to a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI; the attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday, May 8, 2026, when terrorists attacked the military locations from different directions.
The military said troops engaged the attackers and prevented them from overrunning the locations.

It stated that 10 bodies of terrorists were recovered around the area after the encounter, while intelligence reports indicated that more bodies were discovered along withdrawal routes around Gashua, Azare, and Kamuya.
The statement added that the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI carried out air strikes on fleeing terrorists, leading to additional casualties.
Items recovered from the scene included eight AK-47 rifles, two General Purpose Machine Guns, two Rocket-Propelled Grenade tubes, RPG bombs, ammunition, loaded magazines, bandoliers, and improvised explosive device canisters.

Troops and volunteer forces are currently conducting follow-up operations to track fleeing terrorists in the area.
The military also confirmed that two soldiers were killed during the attack, while some military vehicles sustained minor damage.
