OPHK- COAS Urges Troops to Intensify Offensive Against Insurgents in North-East

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has urged troops fighting insurgency in the north-east to remain vigilant and maintain an aggressive operational posture against militant groups in the region.

He gave the directive during an operational assessment visit to the headquarters of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, in Maiduguri on Saturday.

According to a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for Operation Hadin Kai, the visit was aimed at assessing the security situation in the theatre, reviewing ongoing operations and strengthening coordination with other security agencies involved in counter-terrorism efforts.

Addressing troops during the visit, Gen Shaibu commended their resilience and sacrifices in protecting civilians and confronting insurgents across the region. He urged them to sustain the momentum of ongoing operations and maintain a high level of situational awareness.

The army chief also stressed the need for stronger coordination between units and improved intelligence gathering to consolidate recent gains against militant groups.

He said troops should continue taking the fight to insurgents and deny them freedom of movement, particularly during the final phase of the Ramadan period and afterwards.

Earlier, the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar,briefed the army chief on recent operations, achievements and challenges in the theatre.

He assured him that troops remained committed to restoring peace and security in the region and said their morale remained high despite setbacks in some areas.
