The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has called for stronger security cooperation with the Nigerian Air Force as part of efforts to tackle persistent insecurity in the state and the wider North Central region.

Mr Mutfwang made the appeal on Tuesday during a visit to Air Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he met the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke. He congratulated the air chief on his appointment and praised the Air Force for its role in responding to security threats in Plateau State.

The governor said the state was grappling with complex and asymmetric security challenges, stressing that sustained collaboration with federal security agencies was essential, particularly during festive periods and the farming season when tensions often rise. He assured the Air Force of the state government’s continued support for its operations.

Responding, Air Marshal Aneke reaffirmed the Air Force’s commitment to supporting peace and stability in Plateau State through intelligence-led operations, surveillance missions and air mobility support, working alongside other security agencies.

He thanked the Plateau State Government for creating a conducive environment for Air Force personnel and said cooperation from state authorities and local communities was crucial to achieving lasting security.

Both leaders agreed to deepen their partnership through improved training, capability development and a coordinated, whole-of-government approach to security, aimed at restoring public confidence and promoting sustainable development in the state.
