Police Appoints Anthony Placid as Force Spokesperson

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Okon Placid as the new Force Public Relations Officer.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the outgoing police spokesperson, Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Benjamin Hundeyin, Mr Placid replaces him as the head of the Nigeria Police Force’s public communications unit.

Mr Placid, who joined the police as a cadet Assistant Superintendent in 1996 and was commissioned in 1998, has served in several operational and administrative roles within the force. His previous postings include Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa State and at the Police Staff College in Jos.

He has also held positions such as Divisional Police Officer in several locations including Calabar, Bakassi and Gembu, and served as Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of operations in Akwa Ibom and Kogi states.

The new police spokesperson has also worked in international assignments, including as Chief of Training for the African Union Mission in Sudan and Head of Training and Development for the United Nations Mission in Darfur.

Born on 2 December 1970 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Mr Placid holds a degree in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Uyo and a Master’s degree in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos. He also studied law at the National Open University of Nigeria.

He is a member of the International Association ofChiefs of Police and recently completed the Senior Executive Course at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies in Kuru, after which he was inducted as a Member of the National Institute in December 2025.
