President Tinubu Commends Wike’s Infrastructure Model as Gaduwa District Roads Are Commissioned

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike, for what he described as a complete turnaround in how infrastructure is delivered in Abuja, saying the era of abandoned inner roads and stalled projects is over.

The President spoke in Abuja during the official commissioning of the full-scope development of Akinwumi Ajibola Street, covering Important Local Streets ILS 16, 18, and 19 in Gaduwa District. He was represented at the event by Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

“You Ended Mobilization Without Movement” – Tinubu to Wike
President Tinubu said the FCT Minister has removed the excuse of funding delays that once crippled projects in the capital.

“Let me put it on record. You have changed the culture of delivery in the FCT. You ended the era of mobilization without movement. You ended the era of abandoned inner roads while major highways took all the attention,” he said.

He noted that Wike’s approach is extending development beyond the city centre into districts and satellite towns.
“You are taking development from the city centre into the districts and the satellite towns, street by street, so that no resident is left behind. That is leadership. You inspect, you correct, you finish. Minister Wike, you have my confidence, you have my commendation, and the FCT has your results. Well done to you and to your team,” the President stated.

Impact of the Gaduwa Road Project
Describing the Gaduwa intervention, Tinubu said residents previously struggled to access their homes because the area lacked motorable roads. He said the completed project will directly improve living standards and connectivity.

“This project returns dignity to residents who should never have been forced to choose between owning a home and reaching it. That is governance: small projects, big impact,” he said.

The President added that the road has already led to higher property values, less vehicle damage, and shorter travel times. He urged Gaduwa residents to protect the asset by keeping drainages clear and reporting vandalism promptly.

Wike Credits Tinubu, NASS for FCT Transformation
In his remarks, Minister Wike attributed the ongoing transformation of Abuja to President Tinubu’s consistent support and to the National Assembly for the timely passage of the FCT’s statutory budgets, which he said unlocked funding for the projects.

Recalling his mandate at appointment, Wike said the President directed him to extend development “from the city centre to the satellite towns.” He said residents across all districts are now seeing real progress.

“Mr. President, yesterday you were in Kwali to commission the 13km road project. Today you are in Gaduwa District. We have been to virtually all the districts and no district will say they are not feeling the impact of this administration, unlike what used to be… The citizens can now feel the impact of the Renewed Hope Agenda. With your continuous support, FCT will see more developments in your tenure,” Wike said.

He also commended the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority, FCDA, and his engineering team for maintaining high construction standards.

Warning on Street Naming
The Minister announced that newly constructed FCT roads will soon be given official names to avoid confusion. He warned the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, Hon. Christopher Maikalangu, against naming FCT-built streets without clearance.

“While acknowledging the power of local authorities to name roads, permission must be taken from either the State or the FG before you name those roads or streets if the government of the State and the Federal Government constructed that road,” Wike said.

FCT Minister of State, FCDA Give Technical Details
The Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, thanked President Tinubu and the National Assembly for their partnership and applauded Wike’s “relentless determination to rewrite Abuja’s infrastructural landscape.”

Delivering the technical brief, FCDA Executive Secretary, Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda, said the Gaduwa project was awarded to Messrs CGC Nigeria Limited in January 2026 and completed in six months.

Technically designated as ILS 18, the road connects via spurs through ILS 16 and 19 and links to Collector C05. It provides interconnectivity within and outside Gaduwa, which is bounded by Durumi, Lokogoma, and Gudu.

Scope of work included:

1. Roadworks: Two lanes with parking lanes on each side
2. Utilities: Telecommunication ducts
3. Amenities: Street lighting

Engr. Dauda said the project has opened the neighbourhood for rapid development, improved security, and boosted the socioeconomic life of residents.
