The Nigerian Navy says it has rescued seven people following a boat collision in the Ogboinbiri waterways of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area in Bayelsa State.
According to a statement signed by the Director of Naval Information, Captain AA Folorunsho, the rescue operation was launched after a distress call involving a collision between a Tantita patrol boat and a wooden market boat.

Naval personnel from Nigerian Navy Ship Soroh were deployed to the scene, where they carried out the rescue and evacuated the victims to a nearby medical facility for treatment. Efforts are continuing to locate other missing persons.
The navy said the operation reflects its commitment to protecting lives and ensuring safety on Nigeria’s waterways, in line with itsbroader maritime security mandate.

It also highlighted recent rescue efforts, including assistance to passengers and crew members in separate incidents in Calabar and surrounding waterways over the past few months.
The service said it would continue to respond promptly to maritime emergencies and maintain safety across the country’s coastal and inland waterways.
