Tinubu Commissions 3.9km Katampe Road, Commends Wike for “Delivering Results” in Abuja

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially commissioned the newly completed Collector Road CN2, also known as Emmanuel Ogala Boulevard, and Important Local Street 5, ILS5, in Katampe District, Abuja, describing the project as proof of his administration’s commitment to restoring public trust through infrastructure delivery.

The 3.9-kilometre dual carriageway, constructed by China Geo-Engineering Construction Company, CGC Nigeria Limited, in a record seven months, links the Katampe and Mabushi districts directly to Yemi Osinbajo Way and Wole Soyinka Way, which connect to the Outer Northern Expressway, also called Murtala Mohammed/Kubwa Expressway.

Vice President Kashim Shettima delivered the President’s keynote address at the commissioning on Friday. President Tinubu, represented by the Vice President, said the road was more than an engineering feat. According to him, it has “restored hope in the current administration’s capacity to fulfill its promises to the nation.”

The President noted that the road was built to international engineering standards and equipped with solar streetlights. He said the lighting has illuminated Katampe at night, dismantled criminal hideouts, and revived Abuja’s nightlife.

“We have installed solar street lights, and today Katampe is bright at night. Abuja’s city life is coming back, and criminal hideouts are disappearing. This is exactly what good governance delivers: security, mobility, and dignity. A road like CN2 is more than just concrete—it represents hope. It proves to every Nigerian that the government can deliver,” President Tinubu stated.

He commended the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, for working “round the clock to deliver results, rather than giving excuses.” The President said Wike had transformed Abuja into a world-class capital by converting abandoned routes into boulevards and delivering water projects and judicial housing.

“When I gave him the assignment to make Abuja a true capital city, I knew his track record. Barrister Wike, you have not disappointed. From transforming abandoned roads into new boulevards, to delivering water projects and judicial quarters, you work day and night. You do not give excuses; you give results,” Tinubu said.

The President urged residents to protect the infrastructure, pay taxes and ground rents, and warned against converting pedestrian walkways to markets or vandalizing solar installations.

Speaking earlier, FCT Minister Barr. Nyesom Wike said the CN2 road had already triggered a wave of private estate and commercial construction in Katampe and Mabushi, while creating jobs for labourers and engineers. He thanked President Tinubu for the opportunity to lead Abuja’s infrastructural transformation and praised Minister of State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, the FCDA engineering team, and the National Assembly oversight committees for their support.

Wike assured residents that the administration’s momentum would not slow down, announcing that the team would move to Karu on Monday to commission a massive water supply project for the FCT’s satellite towns.

Minister of State, FCT, Dr Mahmoud, in her vote of thanks, acknowledged community leaders, traditional rulers, and security agencies whose cooperation ensured a hitch-free delivery.

FCDA Executive Secretary, Engr Richard Yunana Dauda, said the contract was awarded in November 2025. The road comprises a dual carriageway with two lanes and a parking lane on each side, separated by a 2-metre median, totalling six lanes. It also includes underground storm water drainage, water pipes, sewer network, telecommunication ducts, solar street lighting, walkways and green verges.

Dauda added that many Nigerians were employed directly and indirectly during construction. The project, he said, has reduced travel time, improved security, and enhanced interconnectivity between Katampe, Mabushi, Jahi, Maitama and adjoining districts.

CGC Nigeria Limited Managing Director, Mr Lv Haiming, said the company prioritized hiring local workers and training young Nigerians with practical engineering skills. He expressed gratitude to the President, the FCT Minister, and residents for their support.

Dignitaries at the event included Chairman, House Committee on FCT, Hon Muktar Aliyu Betara, Senator Philip Aduda, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, and other federal and FCT officials.
