The Armed Forces of Nigeria hosted the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day (AFCRD) Regimental Dinner Night on Tuesday in Abuja, an event marked by solemn reflection, military tradition and a display of unity among serving officers.
According to a statement signed by Major General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, the ceremony took place at the Armed Forces Officers’ Mess in Asokoro and brought together senior military leaders, veterans and government representatives to honour fallen personnel and celebrate excellence within the ranks.
Speaking on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Defence Minister General Christopher Musa (retired) said the Remembrance Day activities went beyond ceremony, describing them as central to Nigeria’s military heritage. He said the occasion provided an important opportunity to recognise the courage, professionalism and resilience of serving personnel, while paying tribute to those who died defending the nation.

He noted that troops continued to confront complex security threats under demanding conditions and that the relative peace enjoyed across the country was due to their “vigilance, sacrifice and unwavering dedication”.
General Musa also honoured the memory of fallen officers and soldiers, saying their legacy remained deeply embedded in the nation’s consciousness. He praised the families of the deceased, describing them as “silent pillars of national sacrifice”.
The minister further assured personnel of the Federal Government’s commitment to improving welfare, logistics and operational capability, adding that President Tinubu was determined to ensure the Armed Forces remained well equipped and motivated.
Earlier, the Chief of Defence Staff, General O.O. Oluyede, described the Regimental Dinner Night as a cherished military tradition combining remembrance with discipline, fellowship and pride in service.

He commended troops operating across various theatres for their gallantry and professionalism, saying their efforts continued to foster stronger civil–military relations and restore public confidence. He also acknowledged the vital role of military families in sustaining morale and operational effectiveness.
General Oluyede reiterated the importance of a “whole-of-society” approach to national security, emphasising collaboration between the military, security agencies and local communities in tackling terrorism and safeguarding democracy.
The evening also featured the presentation of medals and awards to senior officers recognised for leadership, gallantry and outstanding service to national security.
