Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected gunrunner and recovered a cache of weapons during an intelligence-led operation in Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba State. The arrest, carried out on 12 February, followed credible intelligence that prompted soldiers at the Forward Operating Base in Wukari to launch a swift response.

The suspect, identified as 48-year-old Abubakar Ibrahim from Barkin Ladi in Plateau State, was taken into custody after troops intercepted him during the operation. A search of the vehicle reportedly yielded six PKT machine guns, two rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, ₦170,000 in cash, a Peugeot 504 car, a mobile phone and assorted personal items.

The Army said the successful interception prevented illegal weapons from entering the state and contributed to wider efforts to tackle insecurity in the region. The suspect is undergoing further investigation.

Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Micheal Akaliro, Commander of 6 Brigade and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, commended the troops for their professionalism and urged them to maintain the momentum. He also thanked residents for providing timely intelligence and called on the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies.
