Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have intensified counter-terrorism operations in the North-East, dismantling a suicide bombing network and intercepting terrorists’ logistics in Adamawa State, according to a statement issued on Monday by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force (North East).
The military said eight suspects were arrested during a coordinated cordon-and-search operation in the Yan Lemo area of Mubi South Local Government Area on 5 January 2026. Two of the suspects were identified as key facilitators believed to have supplied materials used in the Gamboru Market Mosque suicide bombing. Items recovered from their residence — including cash, mobile phones, ATM cards, identification documents, and jewellery — are undergoing forensic analysis.

A suspect already in custody reportedly identified the two principal suspects as suppliers of materials used in fabricating the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) used in the attack. All detainees remain in military custody for further interrogation ahead of transfer to investigative authorities.
In a related operation, OPHK troops intercepted 45 jerrycans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), totalling about 1,125 litres, suspected to be destined for terrorists in Mayo Nguli, Maiha Local Government Area, Adamawa. The suppliers fled on sighting the troops, who recovered the fuel without casualties.

The military said the operations demonstrate OPHK’s resolve to dismantle terror networks and urged residents to remain vigilant and support ongoing security efforts.
Meanwhile, in Sokoto State, the Nigerian Army has launched a new empowerment initiative targeting women within the Giginya Cantonment community. On Tuesday, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA donated 20 new motorcycles to women in the barracks to boost their economic independence.
According to a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, the donation is part of the GOC’s Barracks Women Empowerment Scheme and aligns with the Chief of Army Staff’s directive to enhance troop morale and family welfare. The motorcycles are expected to support petty traders and small business owners by improving their mobility and access to markets.

Receiving the motorcycles, the Magajiya of Giginya Cantonment, Hajiya Amina Adamu, expressed gratitude for the initiative, describing it as transformative. She said the items would be shared equitably and maintained responsibly.
The event, held at the NAOWA Leisure Park, was attended by formation commanders, senior officers, NAOWA and NASWA members, and families within the barracks. The ceremony concluded with a symbolic handover of keys, souvenir presentations, and group photographs.
Both developments highlight ongoing military efforts to strengthen security while promoting community welfare across operational theatres.
