Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 1 Division, operating under Sector 1 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled an attempted bandit attack and killed one suspected extremist during an ambush in the Maraban Rido area of Kaduna State.
The operation was launched late on 22 January after soldiers received a distress call reporting that armed bandits had raided Anguwan Fulan village and rustled livestock. Responding to the alert, troops moved rapidly to the area and set up a snap ambush along the suspected withdrawal route of the attackers.

According to the army, the soldiers made contact with the fleeing bandits and opened fire, forcing them to retreat in disarray and with suspected gunshot wounds. The troops then carried out a follow-up clearance operation across nearby forested zones, including the Kankomi forest.
A second confrontation occurred at a suspected crossing point near Anguwan Sarki, where soldiers engaged the fleeing criminals and neutralised one of them. The army said operations in the area are continuing to track down the remaining suspects.
