Troops Foil Terrorist Ambush in Zamfara, Rescue Two Abducted Herders in Sokoto

Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have foiled a terrorist ambush in Zamfara State and rescued two abducted herders, while recovering 520 livestock in Sokoto State.

The military said the operations were carried out on Wednesday, October 28, as troops intensified efforts to tackle terrorism and protect communities across the North-West.

In Zamfara, troops of Sector 2 came under attack while conducting a fighting patrol along the Anka–Guruzu Road following reports of terrorist activities in the area.

According to the Joint Task Force North-West, the troops engaged the attackers with superior firepower, forcing them to retreat after suffering casualties.

The military said the troops subsequently secured the road and restored movement for commuters.

One soldier sustained a gunshot injury during the encounter and was evacuated for medical attention. He is reported to be in stable condition.

In a separate operation in Sokoto State, troops foiled an attempt by terrorists to rustle livestock and abduct herders in Takasaba village, Sabon Birni Local Government Area.

The troops reportedly acted on intelligence about terrorist activities in the area and engaged the attackers, forcing them to flee and abandon 520 livestock and two abducted victims.

The rescued herders were identified as 50-year-old Malam Sulaiman and 14-year-old Nasiru Sulaiman. They were subsequently handed over to the Sabon Birni Local Government authorities.

The Theatre Commander of Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General W.B. Idris, commended the troops for their performance and urged them to sustain the offensive against terrorist groups.

The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Captain Tamuno Sinivie, disclosed the operations in a statement on Wednesday.

Idris also reassured residents of the military’s commitment to restoring security across the region and urged the public to provide credible and timely information to security agencies.
