Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled a coordinated terrorist attack on the headquarters of the 29 Task Force Brigade in Benisheikh, Borno State, in the early hours of Thursday.
The attack, which occurred around 12:30 a.m., was successfully foiled following a swift response by troops led by the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, according to a statement signed by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Michael Onoja.
The statement said the insurgents attempted to breach the military facility’s defensive perimeter but were met with superior firepower and forced to retreat in disarray, abandoning their mission. It described the attack as a sign of desperation by terrorist elements following sustained losses in recent military operations across the North-East.

However, the military confirmed that a number of soldiers were killed during the encounter. The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, paid tribute to the fallen troops, describing their sacrifice as a testament to their courage and commitment to national defence, while extending condolences to their families.
The Armed Forces urged the public and media to allow due process in notifying the next of kin before further details are released, and cautioned against the spread of unverified information. It added that clearance operations are ongoing to track fleeing insurgents and prevent them from regrouping, while reaffirming the military’s commitment to restoring peace and security in the region.
