Troops Kill Two Lakurawa Terrorists, Recover Arms in Kebbi

Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised two suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during a foiled attack in the Sabarumawa axis of Kebbi State.

According to a statement signed by the Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the operation was conducted on June 27 following credible intelligence that the terrorists were planning to attack the Sabarumawa community. Troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 were immediately deployed and laid a tactical ambush along the suspected route of the terrorists.

The statement said the troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle as they advanced towards the community. The superior firepower of the troops forced the attackers to retreat into the surrounding forest after two of them were killed.

Following the operation, troops recovered several weapons and operational items, including AK-47 rifles, AK-47 magazines, 143 rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle believed to have been used by the terrorists.

The military said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and improve security across the North-West. It urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
