Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE, working alongside operatives of the Benue State Civil Protection Guard, have foiled a terrorist attack on Tor Donga Yam Market in Benue State, killing two suspected terrorists identified as Dantaraba and Golozo.
According to a statement signed by the Acting Media Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, the troops responded to a distress call on Sunday while conducting fighting and confidence-building patrols in the area. On arrival at the market, the troops engaged the attackers in a gun battle, neutralising the two suspects and forcing others to flee.
The statement said troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, one damaged pistol, one pistol magazine, six rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, nine rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition, one ATM card, one Moniepoint ATM card and other items from the scene.
It added that the swift intervention prevented what could have resulted in significant civilian casualties and disruption of commercial activities, allowing traders and residents to continue their daily activities without fear.
The Force Commander of Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops and the Benue State Civil Protection Guard for their professionalism and prompt response. He also appreciated members of the public for providing credible intelligence and urged residents to sustain their support for security agencies, stressing that security remains a collective responsibility.
