Troops Neutralise Lakurawa Terrorists, Recover Weapons, Rustled Livestock in Sokoto, Katsina

Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised several suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovered weapons as well as rustled livestock during separate operations in Sokoto and Katsina states.

In a statement signed by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Army/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, the troops responded to a distress call over an attempt by suspected Lakurawa Terrorist Group members to burn a Nigeria Immigration Service facility at Ruwa Wiri Village in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The statement said troops engaged the terrorists in a firefight, neutralising two of them, while others escaped.

Following the operation, troops conducted exploitation of the area and recovered two AK-47 rifles, ammunition and a motorcycle.

In a separate operation in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, troops on fighting patrol reportedly encountered terrorists moving with rustled livestock at Danya Bakwai Settlement.

The terrorist fled and abandoned 62 rustled livestock, which were later recovered and handed over to their rightful owners at the palace of the Daddara District Head in Jibia LGA.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating terrorism and banditry across the region and urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies.
