Troops of Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have recovered a cache of weapons and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) after repelling suspected Lakurawa terrorists during an offensive operation in Kebbi State.
The operation was conducted on June 14 in the Dogon Daji area of Dandi Local Government Area, where troops engaged the terrorists and forced them to retreat after coming under sustained military firepower.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army and Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt.-Col. Olaniyi Osoba, troops subsequently pursued the fleeing terrorists along their withdrawal routes.
The pursuit led to the recovery of several items abandoned by the insurgents, including rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launch tubes, multiple RPG warheads, several improvised explosive devices, two motorcycles, battery chargers and other logistics materials.
The military said no casualties were recorded among the troops during the operation.
The Army described the operation as part of ongoing efforts by Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantle terrorist and bandit networks operating across the North-West region.
It stated that troops would continue to sustain offensive operations against criminal elements to deny them freedom of action and enhance security for residents of the region.
