Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have thwarted a planned terrorist attack and recovered arms and ammunition during ongoing operations under Operation DESERT SANITY/VIGILANT SIEGE in the North East.
The troops foiled the attack after discovering an improvised explosive device (IED) planted along a route behind an Internally Displaced Persons camp near a military location in Ladari.
In a statement signed by the Media Information Officer of OPHK, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the IED was believed to have been planted to target reinforcement teams and military vehicles but was safely detonated by Explosive Ordnance Disposal specialists without casualties.
Meanwhile, troops conducting operations alongthe Ladari riverbanks uncovered an abandoned cache of weapons, including one Browning pistol, one locally fabricated pistol, 26 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and seven cartridges.
In another operation, troops of Sector 3 working with Civilian Joint Task Force operatives arrested a 15-year-old suspected terrorist, Umar Zacharria, in Gubio town.
Preliminary investigations linked the suspect to terrorist activities along the Kareto axis, where motorists have reportedly been attacked.
The military said the coordinated operations reflected sustained pressure on terrorist groups across the theatre and reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing offensives aimed at restoring peace, security, and economic stability in the North East.
