Wike Vows To Complete All Inherited Road Projects In FCT By December

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed the FCT Administration’s commitment to completing all inherited projects, saying no abandoned project will be left behind under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Minister stated this on Tuesday during an inspection tour of two strategic road projects in Abuja.

At the Inner Southern Expressway, ISEX II, a 10-kilometre road with interchanges and bridges first awarded in 2014, Wike described it as the last major inherited project outstanding alongside the Apo-Karshi Road.

He said the contractor has assured that the road can be completed by December 2026 if funding is released on time, noting that the project is already captured in the national budget.

“We have appealed to the Minister of Finance because funding for the project is already captured in the national budget. If part of the allocation is released, the contractor will be able to meet the deadline,” Wike said. “This project is very important to us because it will significantly transform the landscape of the Federal Capital Territory.”

The Minister also inspected the service carriageways of the Southern Parkway from Arterial Road S20 to Ring Road II, which was flagged off during the administration’s third anniversary. He expressed confidence that the contractor would deliver by December, adding that the project will open up the area for development.

According to him, the completion of Apo-Karshi Road, awarded in 2010, and ISEX II, awarded in 2014, will mark the end of all major inherited projects from previous administrations dating back to 2007.

“Leadership requires continuity. Good leadership is continuing projects that are vital to the development of the city, projects that transform the landscape and improve the economy. That is why people are happy with what is happening in Abuja today,” he stated.

Wike blamed abandoned projects for damaging the image of the nation’s capital and slowing development. He credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the directive to complete all inherited projects and pledged that the FCT Administration would meet its financial obligations to contractors to ensure timely delivery.

The inspection was attended by officials of the FCDA and representatives of CGC Nigeria Limited, the contractor handling the ISEX II project.
