The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Logistics Command commemorated World Optometry Day with a sensitization lecture and health screening programme for personnel and their families at the Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Mess Gym, Ikeja, Lagos, over the weekend.

The event, held under the global theme “A Shared Vision,” aimed to expand access to quality eye care, strengthen professional collaboration, and address emerging vision challenges worldwide. Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Abdul Suleh, Air Officer Commanding Logistics Command, reaffirmed the NAF’s commitment to promoting accessible and quality eye care, particularly through glaucoma education and targeted screening for those aged 40 years and above.
The initiative is crucial for national security and development, as optimal visual health enhances alertness, situational awareness, aviation safety, and mission effectiveness.

Air Commodore Adedoyin Simon Oyenusi, Commander 661 NAF Hospital, emphasized that good eyesight is indispensable to efficiency, safety, and peak performance in the military profession.
The event featured a lecture by Dr. AA Bashir on the importance of early diagnosis and prompt intervention in preventing and managing glaucoma.

The NAF’s efforts align with the Chief of the Air Staff’s philosophy, emphasizing smarter airpower delivery, innovation, and human capacity development.
