APC Chairman Backs LG Chairmen’s Mega Rally for Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has backed plans by the Progressive Local Government Chairmen’s Forum to organise a mega rally in support of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Yilwatda gave the endorsement when he received a delegation of the forum at the APC national secretariat, saying the party would support legitimate political activities aimed at strengthening its chances in the next general election.

He described APC local government chairmen as critical to the party’s electoral strategy because of their proximity to voters and understanding of political dynamics at the grassroots.

According to him, council chairmen are better positioned to identify stakeholders, areas where the party faces challenges and strategies required to improve its performance across wards and communities.

“You are one of the strongest pillars that we have as we move towards the 2027 election. You are so critical to us,” Yilwatda said.

The APC chairman assured the forum of the party leadership’s support for mobilisation efforts that could contribute to its electoral success.

“We will work with you. We will support you. We will stand by you. We will ensure that we have a strong partnership that will give this party a strong victory in 2027,” he added.

Earlier, the National Chairman of the Progressive Local Government Chairmen’s Forum, Dr Mustafa Jibril Alheri, said the group has 685 local government chairmen across 31 states.

Alheri said the forum was committed to mobilising grassroots support for the policies and programmes of the Tinubu administration as well as the President’s re-election bid.

He argued that local government officials and community leaders would play a major role in determining the APC’s performance in 2027, describing council chairmen as the tier of government closest to the people.

“The success of the APC in past elections, and especially in the forthcoming election, is going to be anchored on the strength of local government actors and community influencers who will translate national messages into local realities,” Alheri said.

He also commended Yilwatda’s leadership of the APC and credited him with attracting more political figures to the ruling party.

The meeting was attended by the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, and other members of the party’s National Working Committee.
