Chad Basin National Park, UN Seek Stronger Partnership with Military in North-East

The Chad Basin National Park and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, UN OCHA, have sought deeper collaboration with the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, to strengthen security and improve humanitarian operations in Nigeria’s North-East.

In a statement signed by the Media Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the Conservator of Parks, Chad Basin National Park, Innocent Asuquo, said closer cooperation was needed to prevent terrorists and other criminal elements from using national parks and forest reserves as hideouts.

Asuquo made the call during a courtesy visit to the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, in Maiduguri, Borno State. He commended the military for its efforts in restoring peace and security across the region.

Similarly, the Deputy Head of Office of UN OCHA Nigeria, Patricia Mucheche, called for increased collaboration to enhance humanitarian access to vulnerable populations affected by the insurgency.

She acknowledged the military’s support in facilitating humanitarian operations and appealed for additional security support for internally displaced persons, particularly as resettlement efforts continue and the rainy season approaches.

Responding, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar reaffirmed the military’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with both organisations, noting that collaboration remains critical to addressing security and humanitarian challenges in the North-East.

The Theatre Commander also pledged continued support for humanitarian operations and efforts aimed at ensuring the safe return and reintegration of displaced persons into their communities.

The visits featured the exchange of souvenirs and were attended by senior military officers and officials of the organisations.
