FG Appoints New Provosts for Three Federal Agriculture Colleges

The Federal Government has appointed substantive provosts for three Federal Colleges of Agriculture in Akure, Kano and Dadin Kowa, Gombe State, as part of efforts to strengthen agricultural education, research and the country’s food security drive.

The appointments were announced in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer to the Executive Secretary of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria, ARCN, Khadijat O. Ameen, on Friday. According to the statement, Dr Folorunsho Rasheed Oloyede was appointed Provost of the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure; Dr Salisu Salisu will head the Federal College of Agriculture and Produce Technology, Kano; while Dr Umar Umar Abdullahi was appointed Provost of the Federal College of Horticulture, Dadin Kowa, Gombe State.

The appointments were approved by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, following an examination and interview process conducted by the council. Presenting the appointment letters, ARCN Executive Secretary, Dr Adamu Abubakar Dabban, charged the new provosts to position their institutions to contribute meaningfully to the Federal Government’s food security agenda. Dabban urged them to transform the colleges into centres of excellence in agricultural knowledge, research and innovation while maintaining professionalism and diligence in the discharge of their responsibilities.

He also tasked the new provosts with improving institutional governance, strengthening research capacity and stakeholder collaboration, promoting staff welfare and contributing to the development of Nigeria’s National Agricultural Research System.
