In celebration of Bordeaux’s 140th anniversary, Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr has revealed he will be among fans when the club take on Nantes in a French Ligue 1 clash at the Stade Matmut-Atlantique on Sunday.
Bordeaux was founded on October 1, 1881, as a multi-sports club and is one of the most successful football clubs in France and boasts six Ligue 1 titles, four Coupe de France titles, three Coupe de la Ligue titles, and three Trophée des champions titles as well.
Rohr joined Bordeaux in 1977 and went on to make 352 appearances for the club, scoring 13 goals, before ending a 12-year spell as a player with the club in 1989.
The 68-year-old returned to the club as a manager in 1990 and was with the French club until 1996 when he guided them to a UEFA Cup final defeat to Bayern Munich.
The Eagles coach in an interview with TV7 spoke about the festivities and said he would attend Bordeaux’s 140th anniversary, thus giving the Franco-German the opportunity to watch three Eagles players (Moses Simon, Samuel Kalu, and Josh Maja) who could be in action in the encounter.
