Nigeria and the United States have inaugurated the Defence Institutional Technical Working Groups (DITWGs) in Abuja as part of the 2026 Defence Cooperation Roadmap aimed at strengthening bilateral security collaboration against terrorism and regional instability.
The development was announced in a statement signed by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, on Monday.

Speaking during the inauguration, the head of the US delegation, Mr. Cate Dave, said the initiative would enhance strategic planning and institutional capacity needed to deny terrorists safe havens. He stressed the importance of institutional development in improving counterterrorism operations.

Leading the Nigerian delegation, Air Vice Marshal Francis Edosa said the partnership was crucial in addressing evolving security challenges in Nigeria and the wider region. He noted that the collaboration would focus on improving thewarfighting capabilities of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and boosting operational responsiveness to restore peace and stability across the country.

Both countries also underscored the importance of accountability, practical outcomes and sustained cooperation in enhancing regional security and stability.
