Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are set to meet in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, today (Monday) in a high-stakes meeting aimed at addressing key issues threatening the unity and future of the opposition party.

Credible sources told The on Sunday that the emergency meeting, convened under the PDP Governors’ Forum, will address the controversy surrounding the reinstatement of the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, by the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court, in a ruling delivered on March 21, 2025, invalidated previous lower court decisions that briefly installed Sunday Udeh-Okoye in the position.

Although the PDP had earlier aligned with Udeh-Okoye, it has yet to make a formal statement following the apex court’s decision that reinstated Anyanwu, who is widely known as a close ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The PDP governors will also discuss the political turbulence in Rivers State, particularly the controversial suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who also serves as the party’s Vice Chairman.

Fubara’s suspension followed President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, escalating the already tense political climate in the oil-rich state.
