The Akwa Ibom Police Command has announced the enforcement of the ban on the illegal use of tinted glasses, sirens, and covered number plates as it cautions motorists against breaching the directive.
This was disclosed in a statement by the spokesperson for the command, Timfon John, on Wednesday.
John said the Akwa Ibom Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara, has ordered a clampdown on violators of this instruction and full enforcement for safety on all the roads in the state.
“Akwa Ibom State Police Command has issued a warning against the use of illegal tinted glass, sirens, and concealed number plates on vehicles. The Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara, noted with dismay a rise in the use of these items on private and unauthorised vehicles.
“The use of tinted glass, sirens, and concealed number plates on vehicles constitutes a significant risk to public safety and order in the state. It makes it difficult for law enforcement officials to identify vehicles involved in criminal activities, thereby hindering their efforts to maintain a safe environment for Akwa Ibomites and residents in the state.
He said the ban was to ensure total compliance with regulations regarding tinted glass, the use of sirens, and concealed number plates, urging all motorists plying public roads to desist from the practice.
John added that the state command has ordered a total clampdown on lawbreakers, a commitment to upholding the law. He also urged the public to abide by these rules and work with law enforcement to keep everyone safe.
